ARTIST TALK & DEMO
John Pusateri, Director Auckland Print Studio, NZ
Black Church Temporary Gallery, 4 Temple Bar
Wednesday, 26th May, 6-8pm
Black Church Print Studio presents an Artist Talk & Demonstration by John Pusateri (NZ), winner of the International Lithography Artist-in-Resident Award 2010. Previous award winners include: Jessica Harrison (UK), 2008 and Ben Moreau (USA), 2009.
Originally from Pennsylvania, USA, Pusateri is founder and director of Auckland Print Studio, New Zealand, and a Lecturer at the Department of Architecture, Unitec, NZ, having moved there in 2004 to pursue a Master's degree at the Elam School of Fine Arts. Since 1999, he has been involved in numerous projects and art workshops that have taken place in Correctional Facilities both Auckland and New York and has exhibited extensively throughout NZ, USA, Canada, Costa Rica, UK, Japan, Mexico and Italy.
The talk will focus on the artists practice, from concept through to technique. Often project specific, Pusateri's work is driven by a deep intrigue of the interface between science and art, and particularly, the primary role observation holds within both. This will be followed by a demonstration upstairs in the Studio of the lithography process (i.e. graining of stone, drawing, chemical processing, and printing) and where John will invite audience members to participate in the production of a lithograph print
An initiative of the Black Church Print Studio, the residency programme aims to further the professional development of artists by: enabling the creation and production of new work; fostering an exchange of ideas and influences; encouraging the sharing of expertise; inspiring new works of art and creative collaborations.
