Ella Bertilsson was born in Umeå, north of Sweden, but has lived in Dublin for the last five years. She has just completed a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin.
Her art practice is autobiographical and incorporates ideas around memories, stories and characters from her hometown. Ella uses printmaking as a way to create a layered narrative using different media in singular images. This media includes stop-motion animation, photography, digital print, video and model making.
Ella's work is inspired by lyrics of songs, which compel her to physically engage with the words by creating a body of sketches. From these sketches Ella teases out patterns that she feels interweave with her own life experience. The artist then navigates her way through different processes and experiments with various materials in order to refine the aesthetic that communicates the idea with the viewer.
